    Evacuation Procedures

All employees should become familiar with evacuation procedures posted in each campus building. See Maps for best evacuation route.

    1. All staff and patrons must exit the building when so instructed by authorized personnel.
    2. Do not use elevators in the event of fire or potential power outage.
    3. Do not search for people. Staff aware of patrons in the building who may need assistance are encouraged to offer aid as the situation warrants. Follow the patron’s advice on how to assist. If unable to directly assist the disabled patron, ask the individual to wait at the nearest exit for assistance from official emergency personnel. Be sure to notify rescue personnel of the patron’s location.
    4. All staff should quickly proceed in an orderly manner to the designated gathering location across the street on east side of South Engineering . Be alert and pay attention to what is happening around you. If the first designated area of evacuation is inaccessible, proceed to the secondary location between Old Main and Putnam Hall. (See Maps.)
    5. Remain at the designated gathering area until someone in authority indicates you may leave. Look around for your co-workers and colleagues. Make sure everyone has made it out of the building. Notify police or firefighters if someone is missing. Remain together as a group until dismissed or assigned to help in some capacity.
    6. Do not re-enter the building until instructed to do so by an official.
