If this is a major water emergency call 911 and follow evacuation procedures.
- During work hours notify the Administrative Assistant (231-8352) and/or your supervisor to contact Facilities Management (231-7911). After hours
contact Campus Security or Facilities Management (231-7911) and/or
notify your supervisor. Specify the location of the leak (room number,
call # range, etc.) or nature of the emergency.
- Cover shelves and cabinets with plastic sheeting located in the Disaster supply cabinet or place buckets under the leak(s).
- Move endangered materials, items, books, etc. to a dry location by using a hand truck, dolly, or book truck.
- In the case of standing water, available staff should clean-up
the area promptly. In the Main Library a mop and bucket are normally
located in the first floor light panel room and a wet-vac is located in
the "Blower" room (accessible from the "Bindery" room). A master key
for these areas is located at the Circulation Desk.
- Give any damp library materials to the Circulation Department for initial processing.
Safety cautions:
- Do not enter flooded areas until cleared by Police/Fire authorities.
- Do not walk through moving or contaminated water.
- If the building has not been evacuated, post staff members at entrances to flooded areas to keep out unauthorized persons.
