    Water Emergencies

If this is a major water emergency call 911 and follow evacuation procedures.

    1. During work hours notify the Administrative Assistant (231-8352) and/or your supervisor to contact Facilities Management (231-7911). After hours contact Campus Security or Facilities Management (231-7911) and/or notify your supervisor. Specify the location of the leak (room number, call # range, etc.) or nature of the emergency.
    2. Cover shelves and cabinets with plastic sheeting located in the Disaster supply cabinet or place buckets under the leak(s).
    3. Move endangered materials, items, books, etc. to a dry location by using a hand truck, dolly, or book truck.
    4. In the case of standing water, available staff should clean-up the area promptly. In the Main Library a mop and bucket are normally located in the first floor light panel room and a wet-vac is located in the "Blower" room (accessible from the "Bindery" room). A master key for these areas is located at the Circulation Desk.
    5. Give any damp library materials to the Circulation Department for initial processing.

    Safety cautions:

    1. Do not enter flooded areas until cleared by Police/Fire authorities.
    2. Do not walk through moving or contaminated water.
    3. If the building has not been evacuated, post staff members at entrances to flooded areas to keep out unauthorized persons.
