In the event of severe weather, NDSU's primary mode of communication on campus operation and classes will be through the NDSU website and "Emergency Announcement" phone number [231-4636]. Normally, snow or low temperatures are not reasons to close the University, but significant amounts of snow might warrant a delayed start. Snow combined with severe windchills and blizzard conditions may warrant closing the University.
The NDSU Vice-President for Student Affairs normally decides if and when NDSU will close. During periods of severe weather, the University will make one of the following three statements on the NDSU home page and through area media: 1) the University will be in full operation, 2) classes are to be canceled, or 3) the University is closed.
The Dean or an available Director, in consultation with the Vice President for Academic Affairs, will make the determination whether or not to close the library. Staff will be notified by telephone, either directly or by posting an announcement on voice mail. The Director for Public Services will change the message on the Main Library phone number. Branch Library supervisors also should change the message on their phones. Employees (including student workers) who are unable to report to work should notify their supervisors.
If the Library is open when the decision to close is made, Circulation staff will make the following announcement on the PA system:
ATTENTION PLEASE. DUE TO SEVERE WEATHER THE LIBRARY IS CLOSING. PLEASE LEAVE THE BUILDING.
