    Threatening Phone Calls

All threats are to be taken seriously.

Upon receiving a threatening telephone call, do the following:

    1. Remain calm.
    2. Endeavor to engage the caller in an extended conversation in order to keep him or her on the phone for as long as possible.
    3. Get as much information from the caller as possible and write it down; noting those elements identified in the Bomb Threat Aid Form.
    4. If possible have someone else call Campus Police (231-8998) on another phone to report the threat and the phone number on which the call is received.
    5. Do not hang up the phone receiving the call until instructed to do so by law enforcement.
    6. Follow law enforcement instructions, including evacuation of the building if necessary. If so instructed Circulation staff will make the following announcement on the PA:
ATTENTION PLEASE -- ATTENTION PLEASE -- Police have instructed us to evacuate the building. Please leave immediately through the nearest exit.
    [Repeat announcement twice]
