Service Guidelines
NDSU Blog Space Mission
A blog is an online journal which is frequently updated and allows interaction with readers. The North Dakota State University Library provides this blog service as a dynamic space that allows students, faculty and staff a venue for discussion and communication for personal, curricular and scholarly purposes. Blogs are available for use by current students, staff or faculty members.
Usage Guidelines
Use of the blogs must comply with all NDSU and NDUS policies and applicable local, state and federal laws. Applicable policies include, but are not limited to:
- NDSU ITS Acceptable Use Policy
- WWW Publishing Guidelines
- Academic Freedom
- ITS Privacy Statement
Note: These policies include, but are not limited to the following points:
- Blogs cannot be used for political or commercial purposes.
- You must not infringe on copyright holders' rights.
- N.b. NDSU Policy 710.1.2: Universities are not obligated to monitor their computer networks for compliance with applicable laws and policies. This would be impractical and antithetical to the principles of academic freedom, open inquiry, and free exchange of ideas that are essential to the intellectual life of a university. However, universities do have legal, moral, and pedagogical obligations to respond in timely and decisive manners to incidents of alleged or known noncompliance with applicable laws and policies. Ignorance by users of such laws and policies is not a defense. It is assumed that faculty, staff, and students will either be knowledgeable of applicable laws and policies or work to become knowledgeable of such and to refrain from any actions for which they have any doubts as to their compliance with applicable laws and policies.
Service Description
A. Registration
Current students, faculty or staff members in good standing at NDSU are eligible to register for the service. You need a valid university ID (usually: firstname.lastname) and password.
B. Cost
There is no cost to eligible users. This is a part of the NDSU Library's service to the NDSU community.
C. Ownership and Copyright
The copyright and all related rights to the original work posted via this blogging service is owned by and is the sole responsibility of its author(s). The author may license the content of his/her blog through a Creative Commons license.
D. Use and Storage Practices
- The Library may establish limits regarding use of the blogging service and may modify these limits at any time.
- The NDSU Library intends to provide access to a blog author as long as he or she is an eligible participant.
- The NDSU Library intends to archive the content of all the blogs on the Service for non-commercial, historical purposes. By using this blogging service, authors grant the NDSU Library non-exclusive rights to archive blog content in any format.
E. Disclaimer of Warranties
This service is offered at the author's own risk on an "as is" and "as available" basis.
F. Modifications to Service
The NDSU Library reserves the right to change, at any time, at our sole discretion, the provisions of this service.
